Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make Dr. Tom Funnell a proud provider of vision care products and services in Ventura.

Dr. Colin Funnell

Colin Funnell, O.D. was born and raised in Ventura California. He is proud to be back serving the community he knows so well. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Cal Lutheran University in 2014. He graduated with honors from the Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO) at Marshall B. Ketchum University (MBKU) in 2019. His externships had stops at disease heavy sites. He particularly enjoyed rotations at VA Palo Alto and Indian Health Services Hospital in Crownpoint New Mexico on a Navajo Reservation. Other stops focused on Pediatric vision, binocular vision, vision and learning, contact lenses, and specialty contact lenses.

His current clinical passions are expanding on dry eye treatments, fitting specialty contact lenses (scleral lenses), managing glaucoma, and co-managing cataract and LASIK surgeries. He sees patients as young as one years old, and believes strongly in preventing eye disease by staying ahead of complications through routine exams.

Dr. Colin Funnell is so happy to be back in and practicing in Ventura while raising a family with his wife and two children. Together they enjoy trips to the mountains for skiing and snowboarding, days at the beach, and game nights at home. Dr. Colin Funnell Is proud to pick up work in a practice his father started. He always admired the way Dr. Tom Funnell cared for people, and it is his mission to bring that care and compassion on a daily basis.

Dr. Tom Funnell - Retired

Tom enjoys helping people of all ages with their vision care needs. He has special interests in the fields of contact lens, aging vision, progressive and computer lenses, and refractive surgery co-management.

Eye care emergencies always are priority number one for our team no matter what the time of day or night. Dr. Funnell is licensed to diagnose and to prescribe medication to treat many eye diseases.

Tom received his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry from U. C. Berkeley. His research in cornea physiology with extended wear contact lenses won a national award. He has been in practice for about 20 years and was Staff Optometrist for Dr. McKinzie. We had 10 years at the Buenaventura Mall and Tom was a founding partner of a Ventura Optometric group, before leaving that group in 1999.

Tom’s great wife, Carol Simmons, and two sons, Colin and Evan, are active in the community, schools, church, and outdoor life. He enjoys visiting, golf, skiing, cooking, and hearing how your family is doing. I’m looking forward to seeing you for personal vision care.
